Verify your domain with email, DNS or meta tag

Prove that the domain is yours with a code by email, a DNS record or a meta tag on the homepage.

On this page
  1. Code by email
  2. DNS record
  3. Meta tag
  4. If it doesn't work

Before you can claim a profile, you must show that you own the domain. This happens in step 2, Verify, when you create the profile. There are three methods.

Code by email

The quickest method. It works when your email is on the domain or a subdomain of it, e.g. name@yourcompany.com for yourcompany.com.

  1. Enter your work email in step 1.
  2. Enter the 6-digit code from the email.
  3. If the code matches, the domain is verified straight away.

If the email is on another domain, e.g. a Gmail address, the code only logs you in. You then verify with DNS or a meta tag afterwards.

DNS record

  1. Choose DNS record.
  2. Log in to your domain provider, and create a record of type TXT on the domain itself. The name is shown as @ for an ordinary domain.
  3. Choose Copy next to the value, and paste it in. It starts with trustsays-verification=.
  4. Choose Check now.

Meta tag

  1. Choose Meta tag, and choose Copy.
  2. Paste the tag into the head section of your website's homepage. The tag has the name trustsays-verification and your code as its content.
  3. Publish the page, and choose Check now.

We fetch the homepage on https:// and your domain. Once the profile has been claimed, you're welcome to remove the record or tag again.

If it doesn't work

  • A new DNS record can take up to 24 hours before it works. Try again later.
  • Check that the whole value has been copied, without spaces or quotation marks at the start and end.
  • The record must be on the domain itself, not on www or another subdomain.
  • The code belongs to the person who is logged in. If you switch person, the record or tag must be updated with the new code.
  • The meta tag: the homepage must respond directly on https:// and the domain without www. We don't follow redirects, so if the homepage redirects to www, we won't find the tag. Use the DNS record instead.
  • The tag must be in the head section, not in the body.
  • If you've tried many times in a row, wait an hour and try again.
